Is it possible to set the reading direction on multiple comics on OPDS?

I’ve read in other comments that it’s possible to set the reading direction on multiple comics by selecting them all. But I don’t see that option. My comics are all hosted on Kavita which I’ve just set up.

Thanks

It is not possible. Unfortunately, reading direction is not defined in OPDS. Also OPDS is a read-only protocol.

On our roadmap we have added something similar, but it will only work for existing comics in the feed. Newly added titles won’t automatically get this configuration.

Thanks for the reply, I understand.

As a feature request, could it be possible to set a default reading direction per-server?

That we can do :+1: thanks for the suggestion.

In the meantime, remember you can change the default reading direction for the whole app. Changing that setting will only affect new reads.

I’ll move that setting to the library level in future releases.

Thanks! Another thought… one thing I would like to do is to specify a specific folder as the root when adding an OPDS server. For example, I have Kavita set up with a few folders, one of them is “Manga” and that’s the only folder I use in Panels. I’d like to be able to nominate that folder when adding it so it opens directly instead of having to navigate down through the other OPDS folders I don’t use. I have no idea if this is feasible with the OPDS protocol though…

The easiest way is to mark that OPDS feed (folder) as Favorite. You can do that on the Library menu.

Favorites were kind of broken, but the latest release from today (3.6.4) fixes it. Give it a try and let us know if that work for you

Thanks Dani, the Favorites feature is great. Just what I was looking for.

This will be included in the next release

Then, could we set a read direction at the folder level ? So the “Manga” folder could be setup differently than the rest ?

OPDS does not support that, and “folders” are ephemeral to Panels. They live on the server side and could change/disappear without Panels knowing. Also, due to how OPDS is structured, there’s no such thing as a comic “being in a folder” in OPDS. The same item could appear in multiple different feeds. It’s not easy to determine where a comic “is”, to then apply the default reading direction.

We can do it at server level because we can apply that default reading direction to every comic coming from that server connection.

But there’s a workaround. You can create another user on your server, give that user access only to your Manga folder, set the reading direction, and create two different connections on Panels. One for your Comics user, and one for your Mangas user.
