I’m able to use the SMB drive through VLC on my ipad and my windows computer, when I use panels and try to log in I get an error message, I’m wondering if there is any documentation covering this. I’ve tried with a username/password but if it’s not needed for VLC I don’t see why it would be needed here. I’ve tried SMB2 and SMB1, I’ve tried using the hostname and not the IP, I’ve tried logging in with a user credentials set to access everything.
Is there anything else I should try?

We are aware about some SMB issues. Let me paste the answer I gave to a Discord user:
Internally we use this library GitHub - amosavian/AMSMB2: Swift framework to connect SMB2/3 shares to connect to SMB but it has given us so many issues since the moment we introduced it.
We are considering removing it from the project and use the native Files SMB support. I can’t give you an estimate but this has a high priority for us since it may be affecting our Mac release.
In the meantime, I’d recommend using Files importer. Go to Files app, navigate back to Browse, tap on the top right corner “…” and choose connect server. Try conecting to your SMB server from there. if it works, go back to Panels and choose import from Files, your SMB files should appear there. I know it is a workaround but unfortunately there is not a better solution in the short term.
