New User Questions

Hello, I just bought Panels and have been using it on an iPad connected to Komga on my desktop. I’m reading by streaming rather than downloading. I had a few questions about issues I’ve run into:

  1. When I finish a volume in a series there doesn’t seem to be any way to jump to the next issue without closing the current issue back out of Currently Reading and going to On Deck to see the next volume. I feel like I must be missing something here, there’s no way that can be the intended UX.

  2. Is there any way to view a connected library like Komga with a unified view with Currently Reading, On Deck, Recently Added etc without going through different folders for each? Similar to the webviewer for things like Plex or Komga work.

  3. Lastly, my Komga has two libraries on it, Manga and Comics. When I logged in with Panels it has called the Komga instance Iomega for some reason and there’s no way to change this that I can see. Iomega seems to be an old drive manufacturer? I have no idea where it’s gotten this name from.

Otherwise really liking Panels!

Well, I just found an answer to my own question #1 on [Feature Request] Continue Reading OPDS, that’s a shame

Are there any comments on comments 2 and 3?

  1. Currently Reading, On Deck, Recently Added, … are just feeds on OPDS. There is no way to tell them apart from any other feed like “All Libraries” or “Marvel”. Those feeds are not defined in the OPDS standard, so we can’t do much with them.

  2. I’m unsure about that “iomega”. Panels only shows the name of the server when it’s a known server, it doesn’t take the name from anywhere. But you can configure your server name. You can swipe left and then tap on “Configure”, or you can go to the Settings section inside the app > Manage your accounts > [Your Komga server]

I hope that helps

I’ll need to double check the ipad to see if I can rename from iomega, but I did try before and it didn’t seem to be working.

For #2, I just mean is there a way to get the feeds on the same page? Even if they’re kept in separate rows so you don’t have to deal with merging feeds. Currently the workflow if you finish a book is:

  • Open Currently Reading, finish book.
  • Nothing in progress now so this feed is empty.
  • Back out of this feed and open On Deck.
  • Open the new book.

It feels like it would be good to have these shown in the same screen even if they’re split into rows (I’m thinking like how Plex or Komga or even most streaming sites like Netflix or Disney+ display them).

Got it!!

Yes!, that’s on our roadmap. To allow pinning sections to the Home. You will be able to manually pin those, and the content will appear on the Reading Now section (we might rename it reached that point).
I thought you meant automatically.

Oh cool! That’s good to hear. Thanks for the info!
